A few weeks ago there was this little beige stray dog in our neighborhood. After hours of people trying to catch her, a neighbor finally was successful. They brought her over to us, thinking it was our dog. While it was not, I could not but offer to keep her in our yard until the owner would pick her up.
The next day, I got her a collar with her name - that we gave her of course - (Kiwi) and my address on it. Then I called humane society to put her on the "lost and found" whatever it's called list and waited, hoping no one would want her back. It just so happened that there where 5 other Chihuahua found in the general area. So we think someone just dropped all the dogs off to get rid of them.
After we waited for the mandatory 8 or so days, we claimed her, got her an official licence and got her some shots. After the shots we thought she'd die, but she survived... she was lifeless for about 24 hours - I mean she was breathing and she had her eyes open, but she did not move, eat or drink.
So since she survived we built her the coolest dog house there is! (Pictures to come.)
Now we have a dog i would have never chosen would she not have been a stray, but a dog that's really perfect for our family and super sweet.
What we love about her:
She has the same hair color as Sebi
She only poops in one spot, at the far end on the concrete (in our backyard)
She pees where she poops
She hardly ever barks - at first we though she was not able to, but she's barked a few times since, for example when Markus accidentally stepped on her foot.
She let's the boys pick her up without complaining
She hardly eats anything = cheap for us... just how we like it hahaha.
She sleeps outside in her dog house
What's not so cool having a dog:
She had flees and a tick when we got her
She chewed up some of the hard plastic toys
She needs to be taken on walks - even when I'm having a lazy day ;)
Sometimes she whines when she wants to come inside
But all in all, we like having her ;)
Meet Kiwi
my kids are begging for a chihuahua... we can't have adog in this apt, and my husband hates little dogs, but every so often i start thinking it would be a good idea. she looks adorable. and fun :)
